What the Policing Pledge can do for you (20091218)

The Policing Pledge is a set of promises from the Police in England and Wales to ensure you get the best from your force.
These are the three most important elements it covers:

  1. Contact -
You will be able to talk to local police officers when and how it suits you, face to face, by e-mail or at a public meeting. You can also arrange an appointment with your local police for non-urgent problems within 48 hours.
  2. Visibility -
You can expect your Neighbourhood Policing Team officers to spend 80 per cent of their time out on the beat, visibly working to tackle problems you tell them are your priorities.
  3. Feedback -
You will be kept up to date monthly about what the police are doing to combat crime and anti-social behaviour where you live. If you've been the victim of a crime you will be kept informed about the progress of the case at least monthly.

Justice Seen, Justice Done (20090305)
Justice Seen, Justice Done is a cross government programme to address public concerns about crime and justice. It provides support to the law abiding majority who play by the rules by focussing services on the crime and disorder issues that matter in their communities.

Internet access - www.direct.gov.uk/policingpledge is a national portal that for the first time means any member of the public can input their postcode and be taken direct to the pages for their local neighbourhood policing team. The police have worked to ensure that all pages will include information on:

  • Contact details for the Neighbourhood Police team
  • When and where the next meeting where you can have your say is
  • The Neighbourhood Pledge and locally agreed priorities
  • Action taken to address local priorities
  • Crime information and maps for the local area
  • What the public can do to tackle crime
The Policing Pledge
There is now a Policing Pledge. It’s a new set of promises from the police on the service they should provide and every force has committed to keeping those promises.

The police promise to listen to your concerns, act on these concerns, and then keep you informed of the progress they’ve made. Each neighbourhood will have locally agreed priorities, as agreed by the community.
