North Yorkshire County Council Highways department has notified the Parish Council that the Pateley Bridge to Grassington road (the B6265) is the subject of a closure notice on Greenhow Hill for three months, between 27th October 2008 and 27th January 2009.
The closure is to allow resurfacing work to be carried out between Coldstones quarry entrance and Moorhouses road end and the estimated period of closure is three weeks.
The closure notice can be viewed here.
NYCC are proposing a 21 mile diversion for vehicles during the resurfacing work. The diversion will take traffic down Duck Street, left onto the Menwith Hill road, left onto the B6451 to Dacre, left onto the B6165 to Summerbridge and finally into Pateley Bridge. A map of the proposals can be viewed here.
The Parish Council have written to NYCC strongly objecting to the disruption which will be caused to local residents travelling between Pateley Bridge and Greenhow and to other traffic using the road. The Parish Council also noted that it would be have been expeditious to schedule the work to take place at the same time that repairs to the road at Red Brae were begun.
There is now a restriction on vehicles over 7.5 tonnes using the road other than for access. The Parish Council have also written to NYCC recommending that permanent advisory signs are placed at the junction of the B6265 and Duck Street (Greenhow) and at the junction of the B6265 and B6165 (Ripon road junction). This would allow drivers of vehicles over the 7.5 tonne limit the opportunity to turn off the road and use appropriate alternative routes.
The Parish Council will update this page as more information becomes available.
