The Parish Caretaker

The Parish Caretaker is the modern incarnation of the old Parish Lengthsman - a local person employed to do a variety of tasks within a Parish. Traditionally, their role was to maintain roadside verges and drainage, public open spaces and pathways.

The Caretaker Scheme

In 2004 the AONB team decided to re-establish Parish Caretakers in Nidderdale AONB. The Caretakers are funded by the Yorks Dales Millennium Trust via the LEADER scheme and by the parish they work in. The tasks the Caretaker undertakes are varied but include:
